Jan 1st, 2014 is the date that almost every American will be required to have health insurance..(luckily repealed for now) The good news is that pre-existing conditions will no longer be an obstacle to getting coverage. The good news is that low income people will be able to get financial assistance in the form of tax credits and/or cost sharing to make health insurance more affordable. You will have access to maternity and mental health coverage (whether you want it or not). Lots of good things!!!
Of course there are many people that say this law will be a bad thing...and for some people, that may truly be the case. Our advice is to call us with questions, and to stay tuned to the developments over the next year in the hopes that some things that need fixing will be addressed. Else, it is the law, so there is not a lot we can do about it.
For Georgia and Florida, you will be able to shop for health insurance on a Federal Exchange (aka the Market Place), or you can continue to buy on the private market as you do today. Georgia is considering a move to a state based plan for 2024.
Open enrollment for 2024 plans will start Nov 1st and run through Jan 15th 2024 this time...so you can either signup for the first time, or change from your 2023 ACA plan to a new one.

There is a lot to learn about your options under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). For example, what if you have insurance today....can you keep it, and if so, for how much longer? Who do I talk to about my options? What if I do not want insurance? Why are plans now grouped by Platinum, Gold, Bronze, and Silver? Can I still have an HSA plan? How do HSA plans benefit me?
The good news is that we can help you with all your options.....Federal Exchange options or private. Why talk to a novice navigator recently hired under a government program when you can deal with an experienced agent who will always be there to help you?
No 2023 individual health insurance can be sold after January 15th unless a special situation exists....such as loss of credible coverage, family or income change, etc. Basically, health insurance agents may have nothing to do until the end of the year when the 2024 open enrollment season starts again.
